How the Car Respray Process Works

A professional respray is more than applying new colour over existing paint. The quality of the final finish depends on inspection, preparation, repair of underlying defects and controlled paint application.

1. Inspect the existing paint and bodywork

The first step is to identify dents, scratches, scuffs, damaged plastics, corrosion or previous repairs that could affect the finish.

The extent of the paintwork required can then be agreed based on the real condition of the vehicle.

2. Prepare and repair the surface

Body defects are corrected before refinishing. Panels and repaired areas are then prepared so the new paint has a suitable surface.

Good preparation is essential because the paint finish will reflect the condition of the surface beneath it.

3. Apply and cure the paint

Kingskerswell Sprayworx uses a low-bake spray booth for paint refinishing. The controlled booth environment supports a more consistent application and curing process than basic open-workshop spraying.

4. Finish and inspect

Once the refinishing work is complete, the repaired area should be checked for finish and consistency before the vehicle is returned.

Polishing may also form part of the wider refinishing process where appropriate.
